Hello Everyone. I am a college student, Army Vet, and a climber with 10+ yrs. experience in tree service. I must admit that I have not dedicated most of that time with the tree in mind. What I mean by that is, I haven't always used best practices when climbing. I have regrettably spiked many trees that weren’t removals. I have concluded that from late 2018 and on I will no longer practice that method of butchery.
Part of my epiphany came after learning in my biology course more about trees. The take home was that they aren't just objects, they are actual organisms. They have mechanisms and chemical reactions in response to their environment. Just like you and me. I began to realize that I am an organism sporting another organism. Through that realization I found a great opportunity to share with you what I’ve learned and show you a path to becoming a greater climber and through the process a better person. Join me as I grow in my knowledge and wisdom and share it with you.

This tree was a nightmare. The phototropic growth position the stem over the smaller trees below it and to make it worse there were two stems. Now, at the time of this video footage I have already, along with my buddy Justin, removed the majority of the tree. The "drop zone" area, if we could call it that, had a heap of gravel and just totally threw a wrench in the gears. As always thanks you f...

I'm curious-it looks like that rope is smaller than 11mm which is what the wrench states that it works with at the minimum. My guess is that it can manage 10mm static just fine. What size was your rope?
Ditch that saw and get a silky. For real. Its miles better
Very nice. I've been trying to move past the prussik for years. I have to have a two direction lanyard, because I'm old and not as strong at climbing as you young men. The prussik gets too tight at just the sketchy moment I need to move it on my fifteen foot lanyard. I use the same hooks or very similar to what you have, because they're lighter than the steel ones. If you were to post a video of you using this lanyard to ascend a tree while staying tied in the whole time, that wold be really helpful. I have on order a Klimair Adjuster to solve this, but i really like the way a Distel and pulley moves on my climb line, and I was thinking of having two of those rigs on there, but I wonder about the clutter factor. Thank you for posting this!
Hi bud I am also using RRP with dranline rope and noticed that it's getting flat shaped is it the rope issue or I have too much friction adjustment? I believe i am o middle Mark,,3"
what rigging rope is that ? looks good ,nice video, thx.
Could you attach that xsre biner direct to the chest harness? By swapping the position of the 2 carabiners on your bridge's rigging plate.
Are you still running this kind of bridge plate? I’m using a petzl paw but thinking of getting the notch rook, wonder if you’ve tried it?
@@anguswallace5548 Yes sir. It’s been my go to ever since.
Bad ass transition my man
Looks like a really fun job! Just found your channel and subscribed.
You fucking suck, I climb old school dude your slow. The branch came back one cause you didn’t have enough slack in the line to let the first branch drop down. Your a kid lol
Very smooth work. Learned alot. Always enjoy seeing close up what Tree climbers are using as their Technique. Safety every step, and tired from a long Day.
And that 194 sounds angry. What kind of pipe are you running or is it a built saw?
No pipes or anything fancy. It’s all stock with a slightly modified exhaust and tune to match it.
@@chtclimbing I run the 194 also and a cheapo Chinese saw. I opened up the exhaust also. Seems like it woke the saws up a bit
What kind of redirect is that? Does it not add to much friction and when is best time to use it like that? Asking cause I climb zigzag drt and I find myself doing a lot of oak clean outs and dead wooding and get into spots I can't advance out without resetting my whole system.
It’s called a termination-end redirect. I use anytime I need to protect myself out on a limb. I can use it to help me climb around a canopy to access some point of interest. I can use it like this to advance my tie in point. The only limit I’ve encountered is when redirecting through very tight crotches. They tend to add too much friction.
@@chtclimbing good to know thanks. I never thought about just redirecting half the system like that. I will try that out. I tried out on a spar the zigzag put the tail end through the carabiner to repel and that's my go to now on spar work.
Great idea haha
Good morning and good job.
What’s up dude I hope you’re well. Thanks buddy!🤙🏼
@@chtclimbing Doing good hope you are too
@@billyshumate853 all good on my end. I’m just trying to stay consistent in my endeavors and keep myself focused.
Hi, I’m at 31 min in but can’t resist to say few things: - looks like you are rushing a little bit, I follow you I never see you rushing or hurry like this, is that any reason for that? - if you face cut the big branches and direction on the right side you can control better the falls without brushing the house or the other trees branches. If the chainsaw is stocked in to stopping it is a nice and safer, and after freeing out is a good idea to do visual check on there is no significant damage on the blade. Keep up the good work. Just my friendly 2 cents. Erik from Budapest / Hungary 🇭🇺
Yeah that’s actually spot on. I had two hours to finish this tree and get ready for class that morning. I totally agree with the directional cutting as well. Thank you for your comment!🤙🏼
@@chtclimbing But in the end you picked up the vibe and you’ve done what was needed adjusting to the situation and finished nicely! Good job man. 😎💪🤙
Why not put the carabiner around your connection part of the rope right to the chest harness connection instead of a prusic
I’ll give that a try. I made the video a long time ago and haven’t innovated on this idea very much.
👍👍👍👍
You explain very good on your videos
Let r rip
For years now I've seen you use that yellow rope??? Can you tell me what the benefits of it are why you choose it..and details be great if u could ..looking into a static or different srs style line ..something besides 24 strand 11.7 that I usually run...just got the samson dry vortex but got it for double rope mainly ???
@sethhaun78 this rope is called dragonfly by teufelberger. This is a low stretch static kernmantle construction rope. It offers great versatility in terms of climbing application and knotability. As you’ve seen I climb SRS and MRS with this rope. The nature of it may lean slightly toward a spongy feel however once loaded and the load maintained, it behaves like any other static. So for lack of better explanation it is in this gray area between static and the standard high elongation ropes. I hope that helps!🤙🏼
@@chtclimbing yes thank u exact ly what I was needing to know....do you??? Know of a thick line say half-inch that has that capability??? 11mm is super thin..might try it ..but still want thick er ropes ..I bought samson dry vortex hd..
@@chtclimbing have not tryed it yet ..just got it. I like the feel of vortex this us different with water 💦 coating
@@Sethhaun78 no I don’t know of any. I do know there are thicker static ropes that may have higher elongation. This rope really isn’t all that thin. Have you had a rope thinner than half inch? If not you’ll be pleasantly surprised with these types of ropes.
@@chtclimbing yes I have bluemoon and yale focus...and 11.6 petzl flow ...love blue moon ..guess have to get some 16strand fir removals and vortex.just bought vortex dry hd..nice rope most water resistant available. But thick ..I've not tryed and of teffelburger or newengland ropes. Wanted try the green blue tachyon but it's super high priced for a 11.5 rope kinda not sure about that.could get it but don't want be mad after wards.wanted to try the fly and others God bless let me know what your thoughts on many ropes or do video on kernmantle and 16 strand vs 24 strands ..
Nicely done!
Nice work
Nice video and good job 🤙🤙
Mint 👌🏽
Are these stable?
If you do your break-off cuts top cut first then bottom cut, your able to leave the saw in the cut and push without any chance of your saw being grabbed and held onto by the piece.
At least you turn tge volume down during cuts..its most annoying thing as tree guy to watch videos of terrible stock 201t s especially some guys saws sound like there guna blow..rather see details and set ups of other workers...god bless
What’s the name of that ?
Nice work. Hey, I bought a Captain Hook. I used it in the top of a 70' codom white pine to transfer stems. I'm 68 and killin it.
Why not clear your shelf on the way up and avoid that birds nest? Especially when you already have a rope set.
Fast forwarding the video makes it totally useless for those of us trying to learn
sorry beginners error. I uploaded this years ago. appreciate the feedback
Good tricks!!👏 Bájalo carajo, se fue bien regañado el amigo jajaja 😁😋
This video just taught me so much. So you’re just using a drt with an adjustable friction saver, and for rigging it’s just a rigging rope you put on a notch on the tree too support for the drop. Good stuff man 📝
You’re a beast
💪💪💪💪
My foot ascender is two caribeners and an Oring! what's ur advice on tht as a new climber
Get a cammed foot ascender.
You got it 👍 💪
Nice job! Scared me at 4:04 😮
Hey man I was looking at through the time stamp that you said scared you. But I didn’t see what you meant. Perhaps on a different time in the video?
That's some good work. What kind of saddle are you climbing on
Thanks, and it’s a treemotion s light
Nice video and good job 👏
Thanks buddy!
I know you're not rocking your rope runner pro in this video just wondering what rope you currently use with your rope runner. Thanks
Most recently using the dragonfly and the xstatic.
where do you work?
Im all over central NC.
Isn't that a Elm tree
I think you might be on to something. I haven’t seen this video in so long but with a better trained eye it sure looks like it. American elm?
Do you have a video of how you built it ? Including parts needed
Be so much easier to do on ground and clearer without all the other stuff in the background, with better camera angles
I always thought youd get arested for shaling your device in public 😂
Great review.
